The Asterope Butterfly

The Asterope Callithea Butterfly is from the Nymphalidae Familiy of butterflies.  It is a genus (type, classification) of Brush-Footed butterflies.

These colorful butterflies thrive in the tropical forests of the Amazon valley and spend most of their time, way up high in the canopy of trees.  They eat rotting fruit, fish and dung.  They fly mostly between 10am-2pm.
